The Alien series explores a question that has driven this work from the beginning: what would form look like if it had evolved under different rules?

Every shape we recognise as natural, a shell, a bone, a root system, is the product of constraints. The laws of physics, the logic of survival, the chemistry of growth on this particular planet. These constraints are not universal. They are the specific terms under which life on Earth was negotiated. Change the terms, and you get something else entirely.

Through algorithmic design, this series generates forms that obey none of those familiar rules. The algorithm is given space to find its own logic, and the results feel biological without belonging to any biology we know. They suggest an organism without being one. They suggest function without performing it. They are, in the most literal sense, alien.

A-0001 is the largest and most resolved piece in this series. At 47 cm, it has the presence of something discovered rather than designed: a specimen from deep water, or from somewhere further away. The black clay body is covered entirely in black glaze, which pulls light into the surface rather than throwing it back. The material and the glaze become one thing.
